The Board Basics

These sharp-dressed windsurfing boards are modeled after the most popular inflatable SUP; the Ride from Red Paddle Co. Each board measures 10’7” in length and is 33”wide. The wide curvy shapes of the boards offer plenty of space for maintaining your balance and stance whether you’re paddling or catching crosswinds.  Riders tall and small can enjoy each of these models with a weight capacity of 265 lbs.

Thanks to Red Paddle Co.’s unique construction the boards maintain their durability while still being incredibly lightweight at only 23 lbs. Fin configuration: Single removable; the Windsurf also has a removable center dagger

Building the Board

The Wind and the Windsurf share the same lightweight durable core, made from MSL Fusion technology. It’s what’s on the outside that really sets them apart.  The Wind is covered in soft embossed EVA foam with a diamond grooved tail pad. While the Windsurf has a completely diamond grooved deck pad offering more grip for a windsurfing oriented board.

Soft carrying handles are featured on both boards for transport, the Wind has one each at the nose, center and tail of the board and the Windsurf has one at the nose and tail with two center handles on either side of the board.

At the tail of each board is a high-quality inflation valve alongside a stainless steel D-ring for attaching a safety leash. There are also integrated accessory mounts at the nose of each board for attaching a GoPro, fishing rod holder or other SUP accessories.

Each board features a single removable center fin with a US fin box for easy attaching and removing. The Wind features a center fin and the Windsurf has a Surefin daggerboard for added lateral control when windsurfing.

What’s Included

The Red Paddle Co windsurfing family of inflatable boards comes with the typical accessory package. An all-terrain backpack with comfortable shoulder straps and a unique foil lining holds your board and all included accessories.

You also receive a Titan dual-chamber pump for fast inflation, a repair kit, and a waterproof phone pouch to keep your important bits dry. The Windsurf comes with the Surefin daggerboard, but neither of the boards comes with a surfing rig, that you’ll have to get yourself.

On the Water

The windsurfing family of iSUPs from Red Paddle Co performs as incredibly as the rest of the Red family of boards. As mentioned before the Wind is a paddleboard designed for dabbling in windsurfing and the Windsurf is an iSUP designed for more serious windsurfing novices that can still perform like an all-around board. Both models feature unrivaled stability and are incredibly rigid.

Every detail was designed with the rider in mind, the deck pads feel incredibly soft under the feet and offer enough grip when things start to get slippery. The wide base not only feels incredibly balanced but larger riders feel more comfortable and stable.

There are slight differences in performance between the boards. The Wind glides smoothly but not too speedily, and doesn’t drag even with the center fin. The board is easy to turn and feels good going long distances.

The longer fins allow the Wind to handle surf better and adding a windsurfing rig is quick and easy if the wind starts to pick up. The Wind is an easy to maneuver board for all levels of paddlers on any body of water. The Windsurf was designed more for those who want to focus more on learning to windsurf but still want a board versatile enough to enjoy paddleboarding.

The dagger board system used on the Windsurf uses a slot in the center of the board that a Surefin dagger board slides into for more control and better tracking. When the wind kicks up the Windsurf feels stable and confident on the water. The board turns sharply and quickly while you remain in control.

Red Paddle Co Wind and Windsurf ReviewsPros and Cons: An Explanation

There are many things to love about these multi-functional iSUPs that can take you on all kinds of adventures, though we only have one small complaint. It would have been nice to see some bungee storage on board. There are times when you may want to sail out on the water and paddle back in, or vice versa, it would be nice to have a place to place your rig or paddle when you’re not using it.

We would also like to see a cover for the daggerboard slot on the Windsurf; water splashes up through the hole when the Surefin is not in place.
